Community Tours – Googong Water Treatment Plant

As a part of the 2018 Googong Dam and Foreshore community engagement program, Icon Water is giving Googong Township, ACT and Queanbeyan-Palerang residents a rare opportunity to tour the Googong Water Treatment Plant.

Date: Saturday 20 October 2018
Tour 1 schedule: 11:15am – 12:15pm
Tour 2 schedule: 1:00pm – 2:00pm

The Googong Water Treatment Plant was built in 1979 to treat water from the Googong Dam. This tour will cover the techniques used to supply and treat water for the Nation’s Capital and Queanbeyan from 1979 to today. Visitors will learn about the ACT and Queanbeyan Urban Water Cycle, Googong and Cotter catchments, the dams and infrastructure, and the treatment system that supplies our region with fresh clean water.

Each tour is free and for a maximum of 20 people. As the plant includes stairs, uneven terrain, narrow paths and steep terrain, the tour is not suitable for wheelchair access, prams and strollers or children under five years old.

Please note that all participants must wear full length long pants, long sleeves and enclosed flat shoes as this is an active industrial site. For safety reasons Icon Water will not be able to include participants who do not wear correct attire to the site. High-vis vests and eye goggles will be provided.

Spaces are limited, so be quick to register. All participants must register via Eventbrite by Monday 16 October 2018:
