Icon Water responds to water security claims

John Knox, Managing Director, Icon Water has today acknowledged Mr McKeown's comments and provides the following response:


“I would like to reassure the community that we have secured their long term water supply for many decades to come and continue to build and update our water demand profiles in line with the projected growth in Canberra and the region.”


“Icon Water has leading industry water modelling expertise and comprehensively models water security including a range of climate change and growth scenarios.”


“Following the millennium drought the community embraced the value of using water wisely which has further contributed to water security by achieving one of the largest sustained water use reductions per capita in Australia.”


“We partner with the ACT Government to deliver key aspects of the ACT water strategy 2014 to 2044 that manages the Territory's water resources over the next thirty years to meet our urban, environmental needs and regional responsibilities.” 


“We are also members of the ACT and Region Catchment Management Coordination Group, Water Services Association of Australia and the Australian Water Association.”


Mr Knox concluded that “We are extremely proud of our water security program and we are actively engaged in broader water industry initiatives to promote the growth and liveability outcomes for the region.”
