Icon Water Run for your Lifeline moves to the lake

November 3, 2016

Over 1000 set to support this incredible charity with hundreds donning blue hair!

Saturday, 5 November - Lake Burley Griffin - 5km, 10km and half marathon

The third annual Icon Water Run for your Lifeline is just around the corner. With the 5km, 10km and Half Marathon races set to take place this Saturday, 5 November, there’s still time to register. With over $15,000 in prizes it’s a must add to your weekend calendar!

The weather is forecast sunny and warm so this is a fantastic opportunity to get out into the gorgeous spring weather with family and friends.

Lifeline Canberra CEO, Ms Carrie Leeson emphasised that this year’s iconic event will be taking place around the scenic Lake Burley Griffin.

“This is an opportunity for those in our community to support an organisation at the front line, supporting those in their critical time of need, but it is also an opportunity to come out in support of one another as we remember those loved ones lost,” Ms Leeson said.

Lisa Quinn, Icon Water Manager Customer and Community Affairs, said “we are so proud to be supporting such a great cause for our community, and can’t wait for the big race.”

“This is the third year that Icon Water has been providing support to Run for your Lifeline” said Mrs Quinn.

Lifeline Canberra’s Fun Run is a chance for all members of the community to get together and raise much needed funds to assist our local crisis support and suicide prevention service. 100% of each registration goes directly to the organisation’s 13 11 14 line.

The event caters for serious and casual runners as well as an early start for families with a 5km walk or run at 8am. There will be loads of fun, entertainment, music and festivities at the race headquarters on Patrick White Lawns (out the front of the National Library).

Australian Olympic sprinter and local Canberra hero, Melissa Breen, is also taking part in the event. As a 100m national champion, the 5km fun run will be Ms Breen’s first ever attempt tackling a long distance event, giving locals the chance to beat an Olympic athlete.

“I encourage all those interested to get in quickly to take part in this unique opportunity to run or walk around Canberra's iconic lake, and have fun... I'll even be there to meet everyone at the finish line," said Ms Breen.

Mr Shane Rattenbury MLA is another local figure taking part in the event (10km).

“This is an exciting new course for Lifeline Canberra, it’s a scenic course that takes in a lot of our national icons; the Parliamentary Triangle, Government House, Telstra Tower. It’s a great revamp of the Lifeline Canberra fun run and I’m really pleased to be part of it,” said Mr Rattenbury.

The first 500 people to arrive on race day will receive a blue wig, thanks to major event sponsor, Icon Water. Club Lime is giving away 12-month, 6-month, and 3-month platinum health club memberships to podium finishers in the half-marathon, 10km and 5km events. Canberra Outlet Centre will also award podium finishers with $100, $50, and $25 vouchers, for 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

With every participant receiving a medal at the end of their event, great spot prizes from the Athlete’s Foot and all proceeds assisting Lifeline Canberra's crisis support and suicide prevention service, there’s no reason not to take part in this exciting Fun Run in the heart of Canberra City!

Online registrations are open until midday on Thursday, 3 November. Late registrations will be open at race HQ on Friday, 4 November from 4pm to 9am and on race day from 5am to 6am. To register for the 2016 Icon Water Run for your Lifeline event, visit
