Icon Water celebrates National Water Week

October 17, 2016

Icon Water staff will take to Garema Place tomorrow, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 (weather permitting), as part of the National Water Week celebrations where they will talk to Canberrans about their water drinking habits.

National Water Week is an opportunity to remind ourselves and inform others that water must be used wisely to ensure enough for future generations. While the week is designed to remind communities to care and appreciate our vital water sources, it’s also a celebration of innovation and water achievements that have and will contribute to Australia’s sustainable future.

As the supplier of what is often considered the best tap water in Australia, Icon Water wants to remind the Canberra community that just by carrying their own water bottle, and refilling it at one of the public water refill stations located around the city or workplace, they can save their own money and also work towards saving our world.

Waste from single use plastic bottles is one of the biggest environmental disasters of our time and an easy solution to the problem is right in our own homes – our taps!

The facts are pretty clear when you consider:

  • Drinking tap water is better on your health, your wallet and the environment.
  • Bottled water can cost more than $3.00 a litre, whereas Icon Water is typically less than $0.01 a litre.
  • It is expected that bottled water sales will soon overtake carbonated sales.
  • Australians spend over $500m per annum on bottle water and this continues to grow every year.
  • Disposable plastic bottles require significant amounts of fossil fuels to manufacture and transport.
  • It takes up to 7 litres of water to produce just one litre of bottled water.

Icon Water will be in Garema Place handing out Australian made, BPA free 650ml reusable water bottles to the first 500 visitors.
