Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission release final determination on the Water and Sewerage Capital Contributions Code

December 11, 2017

The Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission (ICRC) has released the final determination on Icon Water’s proposal for the Water and Sewerage Capital Contributions (WSCC) Code.  This decision means the new code will take effect on 1 January 2018 with an 18 month transition period.

In March 2017 Icon Water proposed the WSCC Code to establish funding arrangements for water and sewerage infrastructure upgrades that are triggered by new developments in established areas.  This means that the costs are no longer borne solely by one developer that triggers augmentation, instead it is shared across all parties who intend to develop properties within a precinct.

John Knox, Managing Director, said “Over the past year Icon Water has extensively consulted with the community in the development of the proposal to ensure the code represents the community’s views.”

“This code enables Icon Water to sustainably fund the growth of our network in Canberra’s established areas” he said.
