Necessary Water Main Renewal Project works in Kingston and Barton
March 16, 2017
As a part of the Water Main Renewal Project Icon Water has contracted ITS PipeTech Pty Ltd (ITS) to conduct necessary work to upgrade 3470 metres of over 80 year old water main pipes to new, better-quality pipes in the Kingston and Barton areas.
Site preparation for the works is due to begin on Monday, 20 March 2017. This infrastructure project is expected to take up to ten weeks to complete, depending on the weather during the construction period. The new pipes that will be installed are expected to provide water to the community for the next 100 years. The works will benefit the community by improving water quality, pressure and reduce incidents of pipe bursts.
The program in Kingston and Barton includes excavation of pits in the road, footpath and nature strip and laying the majority of new pipes by the pipe bursting technique and in a minority of cases using open cut trenching. Pipe bursting is a relatively new and innovative way of replacing pipes already in the ground with little disruption to the surface.
The necessary works will be conducted on the following streets from Monday, 20 March 2017.
- Telopea Park, Kingston
- Currie Crescent, Kingston
- Eyre Street, Kingston
- Kennedy Street, Kingston
- Giles Street, Kingston
- Young Street, Barton
- Gipps Street, Barton
- Darling Street, Barton
- Belmore Gardens, Barton
Adjacent streets may be impacted with construction activities.
We would like to remind members of the community to be aware of traffic management plans that will be put in place to ensure the work is carried out safely. Project activities may cause reduced access and parking in the area.
The project is designed to ensure minimal disruption to water supply for residents and businesses in the area. Over the next ten weeks Icon Water will provide regular updates to the community about the progress of the project and when the works are completed via iconwater.com.au/WaterMainRenewal and twitter.com/iconwater.
Due to the complexity of these works, short periods of water discolouration may occur. It is recommended that water will clear with normal use, and to avoid using appliances such as the washing machines or dishwashers to avoid potentially staining or discolouring clothes and utensils.
