Icon Water celebrates World Water Day
March 21, 2017
On Wednesday, 22 March 2017 Icon Water is celebrating World Water Day and this year’s theme of “wastewater” by paying tribute to Lower Molonglo Water Control Centre (LMWQCC), Canberra’s main sewage treatment plant.
World Water Day is an international observance. It is an opportunity to learn more about water related issues, and take action to make a difference. World Water Day has been celebrated annually since a recommendation made by the United Nations in 1993.
The collection and treatment of wastewater is an essential part of the water supply cycle. As stated by Water.org, 2.4 billion people - one in three people - lack access to a toilet.
Icon Water is very proud to be a part of World Water Day to encourage awareness and the importance of wastewater management.
All day long on Wednesday, 22 March 2017 World Water Day, Icon Water will be saluting our wastewater treatment plant on our twitter account @iconwater.
Icon Water is asking our community to help be wastewater managers too by:
- Only flushing the 3P’s (pee, poo and paper). A Draincare poster can be downloaded from iconwater.com.au/draincare or collect a Draincare magnet from us at 12 Hoskins St, Mitchell (8:30am-4:45pm from Monday to Friday).
- Making sure our maintenance crews can get to water and sewerage assets on your property. Did you know that you need to keep a one metre clearance zone around Icon Water assets on your block? This includes Icon Water meters, sewer maintenance holes and inspection shafts. A one metre clearance around assets ensures that our crews have adequate space to conduct operations or maintenance of our infrastructure safely and efficiently. You can download more info from iconwater.com.au/myhome.
- Ensuring you have prior approval to discharge in to the sewerage network if your business produces large quantities of wastewater, chemicals, food waste, oils or grease. The sewerage network is only designed to handle wastewater from day to day activities, such as washing and using toilets. To find out more visit iconwater.com.au/tradewaste.
