Icon Water seeks community input to planning for sewer upgrades in Belconnen

November 23, 2018

Icon Water is planning upgrades to the Belconnen trunk sewer, in order to continue to provide reliable sewerage services for Canberra’s growing population. Icon Water is seeking community feedback to help inform the development of these projects.

Many of the local residents will have already received a letter with information about the project, an invitation to attend community drop-in sessions and options for providing feedback.

Icon Water is holding Community drop-in sessions over the next week at Melba Copland College:

•           Saturday 24 November 2018: 9:00am to 11:00am

•           Wednesday 28 November 2018: 5:00pm to 7:00pm

Icon Water Chief Executive Officer, Ray Hezkial said “When the Belconnen trunk sewer was built in 1968 there were about 60,000 people living in Canberra. Today there are over 400,000 people in Canberra and, with significant growth in the Gungahlin area, Icon Water remains focussed on ensuring our network continues to serve our community into the future.”

“It’s important that the community we serve is involved in how we plan and manage these upgrades, so we strongly encourage any input or feedback to that process,” said Mr Hezkial.

The Belconnen trunk sewer upgrade consists of installation of 2.4 km of pipeline and construction of four new odour control units in the suburbs of Latham, Evatt and Florey. The upgrade works are planned for the next few years.
