Canberra’s water still a pristine drop

October 12, 2018

Icon Water’s 2017-18 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report has been released today, highlighting that the Canberra community continues to enjoy some of the best water in the country.

“Icon Water is privileged to maintain and operate a system that has been delivering beautiful water to the Capital Region for over 100 years,” said Managing Director John Knox.

“At Icon Water we believe that high quality water is something our community deserves and we continue to work hard to deliver this for our customers.”
The annual report covers the sources, treatment and delivery of Canberra’s drinking water, and is part of the compliance process for Canberra’s licensed drinking water provider.

“Every year we look forward to thanking our highly specialised scientists, engineers and water industry operators involved in supplying Canberra and Queanbeyan’s water.”

Icon Water’s water quality monitoring includes test results from Icon Water’s reservoirs, treatment plants and distribution network, as well as directly from customer’s taps.

Over 400 customers took part in the customer tap water quality program, which saw more than 1,200 routine water samples collected across Canberra homes.

Results from the laboratory analysis confirms Icon Water’s 100 per cent compliance with the Public Health (Drinking Water) Code of Practice (2007).

“The community can be proud of their great quality drinking water; and can also be confident that Canberra’s water supply is very healthy at 66 per cent full due to the enhanced storage capacity,” said Mr Knox.

“This is due to the significant investments of Icon Water and the ACT Government over the last decade to ensure we have great water security for Canberra and the region.”
