Temporary water discolouration possible in inner south suburbs

May 28, 2019

Icon Water crews will be carrying out essential works today, Tuesday 28 May, as part of the 2019 Water Mains Renewal program, which may impact on water quality in the suburbs of Kingston, Manuka, Red Hill, Narrabundah and Griffith.

During and after the work, some residents may experience discoloured water. This is due to changes in water flow stirring up small amounts of natural sediment in the pipes. Water will clear with normal use within 24 hours of the works being completed.

We don’t recommend that you drink, bathe or cook with water that appears, tastes or smells objectionable.

It’s also better not to use household appliances, such as your dishwasher or washing machine, due to possible staining or discolouration of clothes.

Icon Water invests in the Water Mains Renewal program to address older parts of our network and areas that have recorded a higher water main failure rate (nearly seven kilometres are scheduled for renewal this year).

The Water Mains Renewal Program aims to improve water quality and flow, and minimise the risk of water main failures, so Icon Water can continue to provide high quality drinking water.

If you have any concerns please call us on 02 6248 3111 and select option 3.
