Awards recognise ACT water industry

September 6, 2019

The ACT might be relatively small, but water professionals in the nation’s capital are doing big things.

Icon Water’s Portia Condell was awarded Young Water Professional of the Year at the annual Water Leaders Dinner in Canberra last night.
The Australian Water Association’s 2019 ACT Water Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of individuals and organisations in the water industry across innovation, research, business and delivery of water projects.

Portia works in Icon Water’s Catchment Protection and Land Management team. She is responsible for key aspects of managing the Canberra and Queanbeyan water supply catchments and reducing the risk to the water supply network from bushfires and vegetation encroachment.

Portia’s work ethic and creative approaches to problems are the qualities that water professionals will need in the future in order to meet the challenges of climate change, water scarcity, increased population and threats to our catchments.

Congratulations to all the other winners on the night; ANU’s Jimmy Parascos for winning the Student Water Prize; ACT Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development for winning the Infrastructure Project Innovation Award and the Bureau of Meteorology for winning the Program Innovation Award.

The winners of the ACT Water Awards will automatically be entered into the equivalent National Australian Water Awards category, which will be presented at Ozwater’20 in Adelaide next year.
