Sustainability and environment programs

As a water utility, we face various challenges that impact on our operations and we are continually looking at the most effective ways to address these challenges and roll out programs to ensure our business is more sustainable. 

Challenges impacting our services include

• Increasing demand for water and on the catchments as the population grows
• Impacts of climate change and extreme weather events such as bushfires, floods and droughts on the environmental bringing out changes in inflows to water storages and creating sedimentation and erosion
• Nutrient excess entering out catchments and water systems such as fertilisers and manure entering the water system
• Contamination from septic tanks, herbicides and exposure from other hazardous materials entering the water network
