Safety
Safety is one of Icon Water’s core values. We take safety very seriously and would like to assist you at home and work to ensure you are safe around Icon Water assets.
Clearance to assets
Icon Water requires a one (1) metre clearance zone around assets, e.g. water meter, sewerage maintenance holes and inspection shafts. This is to provide adequate space for us to conduct operations or maintenance of our infrastructure safely and efficiently.
Only Icon Water are permitted to access or work on Icon Water assets. You must never open a sewer manhole or enter an exposed trench containing an Icon Water asset. Toxic gases can build up very quickly and can be very dangerous. If you find a manhole with a damaged or missing lid, talk to us on 02 6248 3111 (option 1).
Bursts
It is very difficult for us to detect water or sewerage bursts in our system, so we need your help to let us know if you find a burst. You can talk to us on 02 6248 3111 and select option 1 or tweet us on twitter.com/iconwater
Details you need to give us:
- Your exact location
- If any water is damaging property or likely to cause an accident.
Icon Water crews will attend as quickly as possible and fix the leak or break. Water may need to be shut off to some residents during repair work, which can cause discoloured water in the area.
Icon Water (and Icon Water contractors) are the only parties permitted to work on Icon Water assets. Unauthorised individuals or private licensed plumbers should not attempt repair in connection or relation to an Icon Water asset.
Dial before you dig is a free national service funded by utility organisations in Australia who own underground services. Make just one call on 1100, tell them your location and they pass the referral to the relevant utility services, who send the information to you, generally within two working days. Service operators are available between 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
Emergency
An emergency relating to our utility networks is anything that is dangerous or a potential health hazard, or when damage has been caused to part of utility infrastructure such as pipes, hydrants and meters. If there is a life-threatening situation, you should call the emergency number 000 for immediate assistance from the police, fire brigade or ambulance before calling our emergency contact number 02 6248 3111 (option 1).
